Oliver Kwek, currently a graduate of Temasek Junior College, Singapore. Indeed, I'm still a young lad who will continue to face greater life challenges ahead of me but hey, my life so far aint' that boring you know. While my life may not be as interesting as yours or I may not be as sociable as you do, I'm thankful for what i have, who I know and who I am. To me, a fantastic blog is something which I can bring some inspirations home or perhaps even some lessons about life that we should really acknowledge. A blogskin is merely a skin, literally. What's more important is the soul or the points that the blog has to bring across. It's meaningless to blog if you don't keep them eventually, cause a blog may be a memoir of your life, or a memory down the lane, as cliche as it sounds huh.

April 2010:

7. Track & Field Meet 2010 - 1st April 2010

Yes, they call this date April Fool's Day. At this event, I signed up to be an official, since Delta House Comm. members asked me to. The experience was similar to the one I had when I became an official for my primary school's Sports Day. I mean like more or less all Track & Field Meets are the same. Oh and Delta House won for cheerleading! Congrats to Che Xuan for being the Sportsman of the Year! You did our House proud and our class too! Alright, I guess I shall not bore you with those nitty-gritty details.

May 2010:

8. College Clean-up - 12th May 2010

My one and only college clean-up in TJC, and it was fun overall. I can still remember that I skipped the full-dress rehearsal for College Day because I'd rather go clean up some classrooms and not waste my time being in full uniform and wait till I rot. Yup, plus the full-dress rehearsal was held at the Auditorium, a stone's throw away from the Seminar Room my class was assigned to. Luckily, I didn't get spotted and when I went back to the CO room, they haven't even start performing at all, so I would say that it's an win-win situation for me, since I experienced being in college clean-up and I was still in time for my CO rehearsal after that. Phew.

Seminar rooms at the Auditorium were always that cold during those times when I had my Chinese lessons held there, seeing everyone shifting their chairs just to evade themselves from the powerful air-con. Well, we could have turn the temperature up if not for the fact that the remote control is nowhere to be found in the classroom.

Lastly, as always, my civics tutor was MIA.

9. Mardi Gras - 27th May 2010

A biennial Arts Festival in TJC and I would say that it is rather fun, given the times spent in CO before performing and the times spent with other section members in TJCO. It's like eye-opener to have around 5 different performances going on at the same time around the college and you have the option to watch either one or don't watch at all. Plus, there was an opportunity for everyone to dress up according to the theme, which I think was some like fairytale related this time round? Yeah, and this Mardi Gras is the only one that I would have through my time in TJC, though one disappointing fact would be that no customised shirt for Mardi Gras was sold this time round.

10. Dizi Outing - 28th May 2010

Our one and only section outing for this year and it's been awesome! Though we didn't do much other than eating at the Sakura outlet near Plaza Singapura and going to Fort Canning Park for a walk, its was fun to have enjoyed the time with the Dizi people around. Perhaps the reason I would miss CO sometimes would be the people that I know there, all the funny moments we've been through and the rough times that we had to clench our teeth and move on. I'm feel blessed for staying in CO and not going on to other PDPs instead since I've made friends whom brightened my life in TJC.

11. Avant Garde - 29th May 2010

The final CO concert that I have in TJC and I believe this would perhaps be the last time I would perform as a musician again. Concert day is always full of thrill and it is always the event that pass the fastest. Fun always makes you forget about time. Forget the scolding by the conductor during rehearsal and other hiccups, performing in CO with other dizi members was awesome I would say and its something I would bring with me as I move on to the next stage of my life. You know, in a concert, being an audience and being a performer is totally 2 different things. As a performer, you tend to 'feel' more for the concert and it is definitely more fun than sitting there to watch as an audience, albeit that performing is much much more stressful and requires much alertness than watching one performing. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to be able to experience both sides.

TJCO - a place which I didn't knew I would go and I would say it is perhaps an unexpected twist in my life that I end up there. At the start, I really hated myself for joining CO because I really wanted to join TJCSB at that time. Plus, at that time, I already knew people from TJSCB so I felt much comfortable with TJCSB than TJCO. To top it all, TJCO was more 'cheena' compared to TJCSB, so I didn't like TJCO albeit that I came from CO before. Sometimes, I even thought of quitting TJCO and joining some other club and societies like LEO Club at the end of year 1. However, given my laziness, I was disgusted by the slow and troublesome process of quitting a PDP (i.e. CCA) and joining another. So, coupled with procrastination, I just ended up staying in TJCO.

Year 2 of being in TJCO was actually more fun than I expected it to, since I met more new juniors and dizi was merged with percussion together with suona and sheng, making life in TJCO much more fun. Though my conductor didn't really like me (as always), sometimes being in TJCO really taught me to bear with things or what they call "忍" in Chinese. Eventually, I'm comfortable with TJCO as I've got used to the life there even though I may not know everyone in TJCO till today. If given a chance to choose all over again, I would choose to go TJCO and experience the same things that I've went through in my 2 years there, be it whether those experiences suck or rock. Being in TJCO was a blessing in disguise I would say, and I'm grateful for the fact that I was from TJCO, not some other PDP in TJC.
